Practical Recommendations On Golf Courses In The Algarve

In the Algarve, Portugal has one of the most in demand golfing regions in Europe.

Thanks to it incredible weather, a range of luxury golfing resorts and hotels as well as other attractions for the whole family, the Algarve continues to attract visitors from all over Europe and as far afield as the United States!

That said, choosing a course to play in the region when planning your golfing holiday can be difficult, especially if you have never been there before. In this article, we will look at a number of courses that you should consider when going to the Algarve on a golfing holiday.

Pines Cliff

Although only a 9-hole course, this is one of the most popular found in the region. The course itself sits on cliffs overlooking the ocean and the nearby town of Albufeira. Close by are a number of beautiful beaches, further adding to the incredible view.

Pines Cliff is a challenge and a good way to spend a morning in the sun! Pay particular attention to the final hole, the ‘Devils Parlor’ well-known throughout Europe for its stunning views and challenging layout. This hard par 3 includes a tee shot right over a ravine into a green far below the tee-box.

Oceanico Old Course

Aptly named, the Old Course was opened as far back as 1969 although it received a major renovation in 1996. This 18 hole course is a par 73 and plays fairly long, so a good driver off the tee is necessary on most of the longer holes. Accuracy, however, is also important as most fairways are lined with pine trees.

Quinta do Lago North

The Quinta do Lago golf resort features both a north and south course. The north course is aimed at golfing veterans and features challenging greens of varying elevations, hazards including bunkers and water, while your round can be strongly influenced by the wind. Again, golfers with excellent driver play will excel on this lengthy course – in fact, there are four Par 5 holes, all offering a great chance of a birdie for those with their long game in tune.

Royal Golf Course

Designed by Sir Henry Cotton, one of the world’s greatest golf architects, many consider this to be the best course in the Algarve region. It also has one of the most famous holes in Portugal, the incredible 16th that requires some approach play over the cliffs found out on the course.

These are just some examples of the courses the Algarve region offers, there are so many to choose you will definitely have to come back again and again!
