The Algarve is a fairly compact area. Faro Airport serves the whole of the region and there are numerous flights from many regions of Europe into a part of Portugal that has become very popular with golfers. They can fly in the morning and play later in the day.
Penina is a complex offering fine accommodation and three golf courses including the Championship Course designed by Sir Henry Cotton which has hosted the Portuguese Open many times.
Not surprisingly there are other hotels that offer help to their guests with tee-times and transfers to and from local courses. They are used to hosting large parties of golfers and looking after their needs through their holiday.
Formosa Park Hotel & Apartments in Almancil is ideal for Pineheiros Altos and San Lorenzo as well as the classics Quinta do Lago North and South. Self-catering deals at Vale do Lobo with games on both of the courses prove very popular as well; this is 5 Star treatment with Far Airport on the doorstep.
Vilamoura is a very popular area for golfers with the following courses close at hand:
Balaia Golf Village in Albufeira has its supporters because Albufeira is also very close to some of the popular courses in the region, notably Balaia, the Nick Faldo and O’Connor courses, Salgados and Pine Cliffs. It is also one of the liveliest places for nightlife on the Algarve. There are 4 and 5 star hotels in the town such as Salgados Grande and Spa next to the Salgados Golf Course.
There is so much choice with the first decision to make is when you want to travel and which courses you wish to play. Golfers often hire cars at the airport to get them to the courses of their choice without having to depend on others. There are several bases that provide entertainment when visitors are not on the golf course. Decisions, decisions and it is actually fun to look at the alternatives and make those decisions. There is something for everyone from the smallest party up to a large group.
